Turnstone
The Turnstone is a common winter visitor to Britain, and although prefering rocky areas, it can be found around all coasts. At just 23cm long, the Turnstone is a fairly small wader. The common name for this bird comes from the way that they search for food, which involves walking quite briskly, flicking over pebbles to see if anything edible is hidden beneath. Turnstone's feed mainly on small molluscs, crustaceans and worms.
