0022 Great Tit

Great Tit (Parus major)
The Great Tit is easily recognised and regularly seen in our gardens alongside the Blue Tit. The male has a noticeably thicker black stripe running down the chest and belly which then spreads out into a broad black patch. The female has a much thinner black stripe which instead of spreading out actually disappears. This is one bird that will exploit food put out in our gardens and this has perhaps helped their winter survival rate.
