The Polecat is now a protected species after being hunted almost to extinction. It was nearly wiped out for the threat it posed to livestock and also for it's fur. It's main stronghold is Wales, but numbers are on the increase again and it is spreading into England. Interbreeding has resulted in a lot of colour variations.
