0001 Grey Seal

Grey Seal Pup (Halichoerus grypus)
Grey Seals come ashore, or haul out, to give birth and mate between October and February. The creamy white pups are born weighing approximately 14kg and remain on land for several weeks. The mothers milk contains about 60% fat, enabling the pups to gain weight rapidly and develop a blubber layer, which is vital to help them maintain body temperature while at sea.
